Get off the beaten track and be surprised by stunning desert landscapes, snow-capped mountains, rivers, different coloured lakes, playful alpacas and chinchillas (small furry rodents). Along the way, you’ll be able to see a vibrant colorful mountain and the constant presence of the imposing Ausangate mountain. You’ll get the chance to experience the local Andean culture in first person. On the way, the guide will tell you all about the customs and traditions of the Andean people as well as the importance of the Ausangate mountain and its seven lakes, which together form a breathtaking landscape in the Vilcanota mountain range.
You’ll leave Cusco at about 5 am. After 3 hours, you’ll reach Tinqui (at 4,050 m / 13,287 ft) town. From there, the car will drive you to Pacchanta (4,350 m / 14,271 ft), where we’ll start our tour and you’ll have the first contact with the local community. We’ll be taking an unconventional trail through the hills and foothills of the Machu Ausangate and Huayna Ausangate mountains. At this point, Cusco’s mountainous geography offers some of the most stunning landscapes of Peru. You’ll come across imposing snowed-capped mountains, green valleys, rivers and colourful lakes. Thus, you need to have your cameras ready at all times. You’ll be visiting the following lakes, which are located at about 4740m/15551 ft): Azul Q’ocha Lake, Oq’ecocha Lake, Algacocha Lake, Otorongo Lake, Puca Cocha Lake, Q’omercocha Lake and Morococha Lake. After this, if the weather conditions are given, you’ll have time to relax at the Pacchanta hot springs before returning to Cusco.
Waking up to an energetic coca leaves infusion and a healthy protein breakfast will get you ready to walk for two hours to the top of the imposing Rainbow mountain (5200m / 17060ft). On our way up, you’ll be able to admire the impressive Red Valley, Ausangate glacier and the Surine Mountain. Once you reach the top, you’ll have time to explore the surroundings and take photos. After that, it’ll be time to go down towards the Chillihuani/Hanchipata community (4800m/15748ft). At this point, our driver will be waiting to drive us to Cusipata town. You’ll get to enjoy a delicious lunch made with organic products from the community. After lunch, you’ll head back to Cusco and we’ll drop you off at your accommodation at about 4 pm.
