After the bike tour, we’ll hike about one hour to the Mirador de los Condores (3,350 m). Here, we’ll have a delicious picnic lunch while observing the depths of the Chonta Canyon and hoping to spot condors flying around. After lunch, we’ll return to Chonta, where our driver will be waiting to drive us to Mollepata (Marcoccasa 3,400 m), where we’ll camp for the night.

After lunch, we’ll continue by an alternative route and we’ll visit Humantay lake (4,220 m): a beautiful colourful lake located at the foot of the Nevado de Humantay. Then, we’ll go through coffee, cocoa and regional fruit plantations. We’ll also have the pleasure to meet Andean families in Wiñaypoco (2,650 m), La Playa (2,100 m) and finally Lucmabamba (2,000 m). We’ll arrive at our camp in Lucmabamba at lunchtime and you’ll have the afternoon off to relax and discover the local life.

Peruvian coffee culture!
In Lucmabamba, we’ll meet a family that grows coffee. With them, we’ll learn about the secrets of coffee production, from harvesting to tasting. Depending on the variety, it takes 3 to 4 years for the newly planted bushes to start producing coffee beans. The coffee cherry (fruit from the coffee plant) turns dark red when it’s ripe and ready for harvesting. Since the coffee is grown in a mountainous area, the harvesting of the fruit is done by hand, a laborious and difficult process, but the coffee production proves to be of a better quality. The farmers of Lucmabamba will guide us around the plantation and show us the handmade production of coffee. The tour will end with a coffee tasting and you’ll be able to buy coffee directly from the producer, an organic and local souvenir to bring back home.

  • During this trek we’ll reach 4,600 masl. This combined with the weather conditions can make the daily hiking even harder. As to enjoy the trek better, we recommend you to be healthy and in good physical condition and to acclimatize in Cusco for at least 2 days before the trek.

  2. Entrance tickets to Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu mountain: To hike up Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu mountain, it is required to book well in advance, because the entrance tickets are limited to a certain number of people daily. When booking, we need a picture of the card sent to the contact email. The Ministry of Culture is strict when verifying student cards. If you do not have a valid ISIC student card, you will be charged the regular price.
  4. Tips: for porters, cooks and guides, tips are always welcome. Porters are also very grateful for a small donation, such as school clothes or supplies for their children.
  5. Cancellation policy: For any cancellation; the costs already incurred by the travel agency will be at your expense. For more details on the cost of cancellations by certain participants, please refer to articles 6, 6.4 and our cancellation policies in the sales terms and conditions.
