Trekking
The only way to reach this citadel is through a whimsical 4-day trek, from the Vilcamabma mountain range, through the deep canyon of Apurimac, amidst mountains, snow-capped peaks and cloud forest full of native flora and fauna.
We’ll leave Cusco at about 5.30 am, and drive for about 4.30 hours to Capuliyoc, driving through the village of Cachora (2,850 m). Capuliyoc is our meeting point with the team of cooks and muleteers, as well as the caravan of horses or mules, who will accompany us throughout this hike. After loading all our camping gear and personal belongings, we’ll start the trek along a flat trail towards the Capuliyoc Pass (2,800 m). At this point, you’ll see the evolution of the landscape and vegetation from the depths of the Apurimac Canyon to the peaks and snow-capped mountains that dominate the Vilcabamba mountain range. We’ll descend into the Apurimac Canyon to the village of Chiquisca (1,830 m), Playa Rosalina (1,550 m) or Santa Rosa (2,100 m) where we will camp.
After breakfast, we’ll start the trek in the middle of a mountain scenery, right in the middle of the Apurimac canyon; we’ll visit some families in Santa Rosa and taste the sugar cane that is grown in the region. Then, a steady climb will take us to the village of Marampata (2,850 m) where we’ll have lunch. From here, we’ll enjoy a magnificent view of the archaeological complex of Choquequirao (3,033 m), and part of the road we are heading for. Arriving at the site of Choquequirao, we will have a first visit to enjoy the sunset, and if lucky enough, to spot some condors flying around. Our campsite is located in Marampata.
At dawn, in the middle of a cloud forest scenery, our guide will guide us around the rest of the Choquequirao. Currently, only 30% of Choquequirao has been discovered and can be visited. The archaeological site still keeps many secrets. We’ll have enough time to learn more about the Inca culture by visiting the houses of the Andean priests, collcas (Inca storage building), terraces, the llama sculptures sector, palaces, liturgical water fountains, the native flora and fauna among others. After this visit to one of the most representative Inca citadels of the Inca culture, we will hike back to Marampata. Then, we’ll descend to the interior of the Apurimac Canyon, we’ll go past Playa Rosalina (1,550 m) and before sunset, we’ll set up our last night camp in Chiquisca (1,830 m).
In the morning, we’ll hike to the Capuliyoq viewpoint (2,800 m), where we will stop to admire the depth of the Apurimac canyon and try to spot condors. Then, we’ll have lunch with a magnificent view of the canyon and the Padreyoc snow-capped mountain. After lunch, we’ll drive back to Cusco, arriving at about 6 pm.
Note: The group of Porters/Horsemen and horses are only present in the trekking part.

Undeniably imagine that that you said. Your favourite reason appeared to be at the web the easiest thing to keep in mind of. I say to you, I definitely get annoyed even as other folks think about worries that they just don’t recognize about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top as well as defined out the whole thing without having side effect , other people could take a signal. Will likely be again to get more. Thanks
