Responsible and Sustainable Tourism

Since 2018, our work has been aimed at establishing and developing collaborative relationships with rural communities linked to our company’s operations.

We seek to make each trip a pleasant experience for the visitor. We promote connections with rural communities through participation in their daily activities, such as agricultural tasks or housework, allowing us to learn about their traditions and customs while supporting their social, cultural, and economic development. This has enabled us to include some communities as strategic allies of our company.

With the support of the Peruvian government, we have added a significant ally to strengthen the development of responsible tourism, ensuring that future generations can enjoy and discover our beautiful country, Peru. Welcome TourCert!

Development in Operational Management of Involved Parties

Economically Responsible

Explorandino and its allies promote sustainable tourism development from the communities, contributing to the diversification of Peru’s tourism offer and socio-economic development. Our initiatives include:

  • Consolidating tourism offerings that highlight local culture, customs, agricultural techniques, and Peruvian cuisine with natural ingredients sourced locally.
  • Increasing competitiveness through innovative tourism products, meeting demand for cultural immersion, and enhancing Peru’s global standing in history, culture, and nature.
  • Maintaining alliances with local communities, including Huacawasi, Calca, and Maras, for Inca Trail services, ensuring fair wages and economic activation.

Environmentally Responsible

Our product portfolio is designed for minimal environmental impact, incorporating sustainable practices across all business operations. Our team promotes environmental stewardship through:

  • Using biodegradable cleaning products and minimizing paper use through digital communication.
  • Implementing solar-powered equipment and LED lights to reduce energy consumption.
  • Educating tourists on environmental responsibility, encouraging them to keep visited sites clean and respect nature.

Solid Waste Management

We practice source separation for waste management, implementing labeled bins for organic, plastic, glass, and cans in our offices and campsites. Reusable materials are encouraged, and we partner with recyclers and municipalities to support sustainable waste disposal.

Water Conservation

Our office and camp facilities use water-saving measures, regularly maintain water tanks, and display reminders for efficient water use. We educate visitors on the importance of consuming only safe, clean water.

Socially Responsible

Our itineraries foster an appreciation for local culture, providing insights into beliefs, relationships, gastronomy, and rituals while creating employment opportunities and supporting cultural preservation. We actively work to prevent social risks, including drug addiction, alcoholism, and exploitation.

Employee Incentives

Our internal policies incorporate incentives for employee performance, loyalty, and health. We provide training in collaboration with Promperu, Sernanp, and other organizations to ensure continual professional development.

Human Rights and Child Protection

Explorandino is committed to safeguarding human rights and protecting children from exploitation. We adhere strictly to national standards and report any suspicious behavior.

Preserving Cultural Heritage

Our policies ensure respect for local communities. We promote activities that celebrate cultural heritage and integrate local traditions within our tours.

Community Tourism Development

In partnership with the communities of Huaca Wasi, Misminay, and Willoc, we promote competitive, sustainable tourism in the Lares Valley. Through these alliances, we support rural development, showcase local craftsmanship, and provide authentic homestays for tourists visiting Machu Picchu.

Supporting Local Economy

We collaborate with the Huacahuasi community in the Sacred Valley, fostering equitable relationships and organizing health and safety campaigns. Our operations generate income for local employees and support regional products, with 70% of our suppliers hailing from the Sacred Valley.

Visitor Responsibility

We remind visitors of their responsibility to uphold sustainable tourism values:

  • Respect human rights and local culture, recognizing diversity and environmental protection.
  • Support the local economy by purchasing locally made products.
  • Avoid behavior that could harm community resources or tarnish the tourism reputation.
  • Embrace tolerance and hospitality, fostering positive relations with locals.

Eco-Foodie Gastronomy

Our chefs, trained in Cusco, create an eco-foodie experience on our treks with meals crafted from fresh, local ingredients, including vegetarian options, all at no extra charge. Our diet emphasizes reducing carbon footprint through seasonal, plant-based foods.

Food Supply

We source food responsibly from supermarkets and local producers, supporting the community economy while adhering to legal and quality standards. We work to train local producers in sustainable food practices and collaborate with them to introduce products like potatoes and guinea pigs, contributing to community development.
