Cultural trip to Cuzco: an unforgettable experience to discover Cuzco, Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu, the historical capital of the Incas.  

A short but complete way to visit the historic capital of the Incas. First you will visit the city of Cuzco, then the second day will be dedicated to the Sacred Valley of the Incas and finally you will finish your visit exploring the famous archaeological site of Machu Picchu. This trip allows you to immerse yourself in Inca history and culture!

A private transport and a representative of the agency will be waiting for you at the Cusco airport (3,400 m) for the transfer to your hotel. Around 13:00, we will go to your hotel to start discovering the city of Cusco: the Plaza de Armas, main square of the town since its foundation in Inca times, the Monastery of Santo Domingo Church built on the foundations of the Koricancha Temple (Temple of the Sun) and inside, the most representative jewel of Inca architecture, also, its alleys and authentic constructions of the Inca and colonial times. We will continue visiting the archaeological sites of Sacsayhuaman, Qenqo, Pukapukara and Tambomachay, which are located on the outskirts of the city of Cusco. Return to the hotel around 18:00. Overnight in a selected hotel of Cusco.

Breakfast at your hotel. At 7:30 am, a private transport and your guide will pick you up at the hotel to go to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Visit the village of Pisac (2,972 m), famous for its handicraft market and then, at the top of the mountain we discover the archaeological site of Pisac (3,272 m) which is part of a historical site built with every rich piece of the sacred valley and its Inca communities. Continuing with the trip, we enter the town of Maras Moray: two of the most important tourist centers; Moray is characterized by its various circular terraces with different microclimates and the Salineras de Maras that has been used since pre-Inca times for obtaining and supplying salt in the Cusco region. Then we will take the road to the town of Ollantaytambo, during which we can admire the beautiful landscapes of mountains, peaks and snow-capped mountains. Visit Ollantaytambo (2,800 m), which is considered the last Inca village thanks to its houses and narrow streets, remains of Inca constructions, as well as the archaeological center. The last part of the day is to take the train to reach Aguas Calientes town (2,050 m) located at the foot of Machu Picchu, where we will spend the night.

Breakfast at your hotel. Early in the morning we will board the bus to Machu Picchu citadel. The sunrise and the company of our professional guide will take you to visit the archaeological site, for approximately 3 hours, to learn more about the daily life and culture of the Incas. After having a tour guided, you will enjoy the magic of the historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu for taking some pictures in memory of your own experience. Lunch at the Tinkuy, Sanctuary lodge restaurant: a buffet lunch experience while visiting Machu Picchu!

Then, return to Aguas Calientes town for boarding the train to Ollantaytambo/Poroy, where our transportation will be waiting to take you to your hotel in Cusco.

  • The trip previously described may vary due to weather conditions, landslides, participants walking pace or other factors. Our professional guide will make the right and best decisions along the way for the benefit and safety of the group.

Thus, we suggest bringing warm clothes, a hat/cap, sunglasses, a scarf, gloves, jacket, high protection sun cream and Anti-mosquito spray – minimum recommended 20% DEET (non-toxic – we suggest nature-friendly repellents). The Hiram Bingham Train category is optional and it is a luxury service of the Orient Express, operated by the company “Peru Rail”. You will experience an exceptional journey. The Hiram Bingham carriages are distinguished by their blue and gold colour, their warm and cosy interior and their elegant upholstery. The service includes 4 carriages, 2 restaurant carriages, as well as a panoramic view carriage with bar. Brunch and dinner on board are also included.

  • An ergonomic day backpack for hiking with waterproof cover (30 or 40 liters).
  • Hiking shoes or running shoes.
  • Comfortable pants.
  • Swimsuit and towel for hot springs (in case you want to relax it).
  • T-shirts with short or long sleeves.
  • Rain poncho.
  • Hat, sunscreen and gel disinfectant alcohol.
  • Anti-mosquito spray – minimum recommended 20% DEET (non-toxic – we suggest nature-friendly repellents). No malaria risk has been reported.
  • Camera (wrapped in a plastic bag).
  • Snack (cereal bars, chocolate and dried fruits).
  • Original passport.
  • Original ISIC Student Card (in case you have applied for a student discount).

More information

1. During high season (May to September), it is difficult to ensure the exact date of entry, due to the restrictions set by the Ministry of Culture to limit the number of entries to the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu; therefore, the date of entry to the Inca Trail could vary for one or two days; then we will adapt the program so you can make the most of it.

2. Entrance tickets to Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu mountain: To hike up Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu mountain, it is required to book well in advance, because the entrance tickets are limited to a certain number of people daily. Therefore, we’ll take care of the reservation and confirm your entrance with an additional charge of 75 USD for adults and 55 USD for students.

Note: If you wish to visit any of the extra mountains, please inform us in due time before purchasing the entrance tickets to the Inca Trail / Machu Picchu citadel.

3. Student card: To qualify for the 20 USD student discount, you must have a valid ISIC student card when you book, not just when you arrive in Cusco! It must be valid for the current year. When booking, we need a picture of the card sent to the contact email. The Ministry of Culture is strict when verifying student cards. If you do not have a valid ISIC student card, you will be charged the regular price. 

4. Tips: for porters, cooks and guides tips are always welcome. Porters are also very grateful for a small donation, such as school clothes or supplies for their children.

Entrance to the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu citadel having been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983. Entrance to Machu Picchu is limited to 4,044 visitors per day. Thus, it is important to book at least 3 months in advance, especially during the high season (between May and September). During the low season, between December and January, it is possible to still have some places available before your visit. However, it’s always best to book in advance.
